Junior Church and crèche

The Junior Church and Crèche programme at City Church provides opportunities for young people to play a full part in church life. “Junior Church” is more than just “Sunday School” because it is more than just education. In Junior Church children learn together, but they also pray together, sing together and give together. Junior Church is based on a commitment to develop the whole person. The programme begins with the whole community gathered for worship, which always includes a special focus on young people in learning, song and prayer.

Just before the sermon, the young people gather to continue exploring the theme of the day in age-appropriate sessions staffed by a team of nine. The crèche department (ages nought to three) is followed by three Junior Church groups for ages 3-6, 6-11, and 12 and up (from their mid-teens, most stay in for the whole service). We use a lectionary-based curriculum that gives the children, teachers and parents the opportunity to look further into the meaning of the Sunday Bible passages read during worship. The exploration of biblical themes that takes place through art, drama and Christian service and social action is an exploration that takes place all across City Church life.
