Mission
City
Church is wholly devoted to the mission goals that shape its life. The major
focus of our mission is the most visible--our sponsorship of the ecumenical
Cardiff Adult Christian Education Centre. City Church seeks to be a centre for
Cardiff churches' engagement with the city as a whole, and we have thrown much
of our resources toward supporting this engagement.
Much of our volunteer energy
is involved in a programme through which a team of lawyers gives pro-bono advice
to asylum seekers, a programme supported by a team (ecumenical and interfaith)
of volunteers who host the twice a week
consultations, provide administrative support, follow cases through the week and
accompany clients at court hearings. This work is part of City Church's
commitment to be a "safe space" for marginalised populations in the city seeking
acceptance, support and affirmation.
As a worshipping congregation, we have
declared ourselves to be an "Open and Affirming" church. These mission goals challenge our
commitments and enlarge our faith, and are therefore written into our "mission
statement"
Church Meeting of 29th September 2002 approved the following statement.
We love God and our neighbours as ourselves (Matthew 19 v 19) and
Declare ourselves to be an Open and Affirming church, made up of and welcoming all people into full participation in the life of the church, regardless of race, colour gender, age, nationality, economic circumstance, marital status, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability or emotional condition
Invite you to journey with us as we share and explore what it means to live as a Christian in today's society. At the heart of our church life you will find our worship and our fellowship, both of which we declare to be inclusive of all and exclusive of none. Our welcome is unconditional.
Commit ourselves to work towards ending ignorance, fear, hatred, prejudice and discrimination and speak out against all forms of oppression whereby people are denied their God-given rights of freedom, health and the necessities of life.
Provide a safe space for dialogue, where all can be honest and open about what they believe and feel.
Celebrate diversity and support reconciliation, dedicate ourselves to act as agents for unity and wholeness within the world and the church. Acknowledge our own short comings and insensitivities as we endeavour to reach out in friendship and love to strengthen each other as we seek God's continuing revelation of truth and light.
